Hi friends! We're Zach and Katie of Water & Whimsy.
In 2017 we opened our LLC and became business owners. From then, each year, we've been honing in on our craft, developing our style... and, a big part of that, is our coloring.
That brings us to Whimsical LUTS; a project we're so dang proud of.
Today, we're offering you something that we wish (more than anything) we had 7 years ago... A LUT pack that we use in all of our films, and feel confident you'll love as much as we do.
We hope, by making these public, that we're able to help out other videographers and create an ideal "starting point" when it comes to color-grading.
With virtually 1 to 2 clicks, these luts will create an earthy, organic, true-to-life feel... featuring vibrant whites, deep blacks, golden skin tones, & lush greens. Just watch our films to see for yourself!
Whisical Luts offers five distinct options to match your individual style preferences:
- Base LUT
- Cooler LUT
- Warmer LUT
- Twilight LUT
- Black & White LUT
All are cohesive, and were made to be used interchangably (depending on lighting and location).
How we typically use them!
Our Base LUT is the cornerstone of the entire pack & where we typically begin when editing. If we had a "signtaure look" this would be it.
The Cooler Lut & Warmer LUT are really fun to play with in specific settings. For example, in California or Mexico we find ourselves being drawn towards the vibrant hues of the Warmer LUT, whereas the Cooler LUT catches our attention in places like Seattle or along the Oregon Coast... more moody & editoral.
When it comes to the reception, and shifting lighting conditions throughout the night, the Twighlight LUT has been our superhero... and it'll be yours, too. The Twilight LUT ensures seamless balance and consistency - despite all the very inconsistent scenerios we're thrown in as videographers (!!).
And then, we have our Black & White LUT! This one is such a vibe, and we use it for just that... to set the tone and create emotion. We've found that the Black & White LUT also pushes our creativity, allows certain clips to "pop" off the screen, and re-creates interest.
